The Farmer

Husband and wife team Janet Brown and Marty Jacobson have been farming organically since 1994 with an original crop of two acres of heirloom tomatoes at their home in Lagunitas. While maintaining a strong focus on tomato production, today they have expanded into growing many different varieties of heirloom vegetables in several locations. In addition, they are increasingly known for their grow- to-order approach based on close relationships with chefs throughout the Bay Area. In 2005, they expanded their farming operation by leasing an additional 8 acres in Nicasio on a MALT easement at the LaFranchi Dairy Ranch. In 2010, they leased an additional 6 acres in Petaluma. Along with the tried and true tomatoes that their customers have come to know and love, they grow many varieties of heirloom peppers, peas, and beans, and a whole new palette of old world squashes and pumpkins. They have also introduced a line of organic hydrosols and essential oils in such fragrances as bay laurel, antique rose, rosemary, coastal sage, lavender and our favorite, Douglas fir. All these aromatherapeutic products are grown and distilled on the farm.
